레이와르던을 대표하는 탑. 이탈리아의 '피사의 사탑'과 마찬가지로 점점 기울어지고 있는 것으로 유명. 꼭대기에 올라가면 전망대가 있어, 레이와르던 시내를 내려다 볼 수 있음.

Construction of this leaning, curved and unfinished tower began in 1529. The original plan included attaching a new church to the tower, which would replace the old saint vitus church, but this was never realized. Back in the day people tought the failed tower was emarrassing, nowadays it's Leeuwarden's proud. Fun fact: the Oldehove is more leaning than the Tower of Pisa.

MUST SEE in Leeuwarden. The 200 yr old crooked tower. You can visit it at 11:00-17:00 to go up the steep stairs to the top and get a nice view of the city. The surrounding square has history behind it: It was built on ancient graves!
