The hiking trail to this iconic lighthouse is at the base of the Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center at Cape D State Park. The path winds by Deadman's Cove, one of the prettiest places in the Northwest particularly on a sunny day when the water is twinkling. The walk to the lighthouse is about 5/8ths of a mile each way and eventually takes you up the hill to the lighthouse that is still occupied by the US Coast Guard, so only on a couple days of the year can you go inside. But the views from outside are some of the most spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean from high atop the cliffs. A great whale and fishing boat watching, as well as bird watching spot!
