The Rock Tub is one of several hot springs located in the meadows southeast of Mammoth Lakes. And while this spring is set before an incredibly scenic backdrop of the Eastern Sierra, it can also be one of the busier springs in the area. The Rock Tub is a cement pool that is about 2 feet deep and large enough for six to eight people. Water flows from the source, a muddy bog, located about 400 feet away, and falls into the pool. Water temperatures are just about 100 degrees; however, unlike other pools in the area, this pool does not benefit from adjustable source flows. The tub is odorless and does have a bit of algae. DIRECTIONS: -Go south on Hwy. 395 - Turn left onto Benton Crossing Road (at a corner marked by a green chapel immediately south of the Mammoth Lakes Airport). Drive for approximately 1.1 miles. - Turn left onto an unsigned dirt road. Drive for approximately 1.2 miles. - Just after the road bends to the right, turn right onto a small, but well-used, unsigned dirt road. Drive about 500 yards to the parking area. -The tub is immediately beside the parking.

If you want to stay closer to civilization, the popular Mammoth Lakes area has several free hot springs including Hilltop Tub and Wild Willy's. Both of these hot springs are very popular and can get crowded, so your best bet is to camp in the Mammoth area, and get up early in the morning to enjoy some hot spring solitude. Both of these pools are accessible off of Highway 395 at Benton Crossing Road.
