Although Crystal River is about 90 minutes drive, it is well worth the trip to spend half a day on a boat ride and potentially swimming with manatees.

It takes about an hour and a half to get there, but it's a once-in-a-lifetime experience to have a friendly and loving manatee silently appear in front of you to look you in the face.

Nice area to enjoy nature, kayaking, boat rentals, etc. Manatee tours are seasonal, so make sure you call ahead of time for schedules.

We have used this group and think they do an amazing job. I was hugged for 10 minutes by a manatee in December. Just an amazing experience. Less expensive than Birds Underwater. But I think they are a little bit shorter of a tour. So check them both out. This group has never failed to find the manatees for our guests to swim with and get up close and personal with them. In the winter, we have hundreds of manatees in Crystal RiverArea. And in the summer time, there are 40-50 moms and their babies and teenagers. They provide the snorkel gear and wet suits and bring you by boat to swim where the manatees are. Even if you only see & swim with 1 manatee, it is worth the trip.
