Moustiers St Marie is 25Km away and a 30minute drive. It’s well worth a visit. It’s famous for it’s a gold-painted star which hangs on a 225m-long chain suspended between two cliffs. Its origin, according to a legend, lies in the 10th century, (the original star and chain have been replaced several times since then). According to the legend, during the Crusades the knight Bozon de Blacas was held prisoner by the Saracens; he vowed to hang a star over his village if he was able to return! The village is built on platform terraces a hundred or so metres up the side of the cliff. At twilight when the sun on a clear day strikes the south-facing cliff, a diffuse pink light glows across the village.

A beautiful village not far from Lac Saint Croix, Moustiers Sainte Marie has been the centre of the pottery trade and faience (the art of painting on ceramics) for centuries. The spring that flows out of the cliff creates a waterfall in the heart of the Moustiers, providing power for the town. Include a visit on the way to Lac Saint Croix and the Gorges du Verdon. It is a good place to have lunch at a café and buy souvenirs of Provence.

Busy village in the summer but worth seeing as it is at the bottom of a cliff with very picturesque architecture and lovely views . Moustier is renowned for it's ceramics ! Definitely worth a detour !
