In an urban mecca like Oakland, it’s amazing to know that this place exists, and that you can hike on an inactive volcano. It’s connected to a vast network of trails, but I usually stick to the Skyline Trail—it’ll take you up into the rolling hills with beautiful vistas, or down through dense jungle-like forestry. It’s the perfect yin and yang. Keep an eye out for a few things: the labyrinth, the poison oak, and the wild cows that you’ll sometimes find on the trail.

Great nearby hiking - about 15 minutes drive. Great views both East and West. Full sun when hot.

This is my fave hiking spot in Oakland! It's a beautiful 10 minute drive through the mountains. Once you get there there's usually plenty of parking and clean bathrooms. The grounds are very well kept and there's big and little hikes. It's a gorgeous spot to explore. Just bring a backpack with water, sunscreen and snacks. There are several labyrinths, have fun finding them!

Visit secret labyrinths in the heart of a volcanic preserve in the Oakland hills. Really beautiful spot for an easy hike.
