It is an old Fort that has some paintings and can give you a sense of old Santiago. It is in one of the widest streets in El Centro which is the equivalent area of downtown Santiago.

Fortaleza San Luis is located near the Yaque del Norte River in southwest Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic. The Fort was the location of several battles during the War of Restoration.

The fortress has great historical importance for the country, since in it, in addition to pronouncing Santiago in favor of independence, the first Dominican flag was raised on March 6, 1844. It was built in 1804, although in wood, to be rebuilt in 1874 with bricks and other more resistant materials.
