When deciding whether to become an Airbnb experience host, it's important for you to understand the laws in your country. As a platform and marketplace we do not provide legal advice, but we want to provide some useful links that may help you better understand laws and regulations that may apply to different sorts of activities in Morocco. This list is not exhaustive, but it should give you a good start in understanding some key issues. If you have questions, contact national and city agencies directly, or consult a local lawyer or tax professional. For more information on the types of rules and laws that might apply to experiences in general, please see the general information articles about experiences.

Please understand that this page is for informational purposes - it is general, not comprehensive, and it is not legal advice. Please also note that we don’t update this information in real time, and you should always confirm that the laws or procedures have not changed recently.*

Many hosts of experiences in Morocco are considered to be conducting a business activity. If you fall into this category, you will be expected to comply with various consumer protection standards (French, English, Arabic), including using reasonable care and skill, and providing your guests with clear and correct information regarding goods services provided and their prices. As a business, you’ll also need to comply with health and safety legislation (French, English, Arabic), including ensuring that your workplace is safe and guests are protected appropriately.

In setting up your business, there are different legal structures you can choose from. For example, you could choose to trade as an individual, or you could set up a company or partnership. The Moroccan Office of Industrial and Commercial Property (English, French, Arabic) publishes guidance on the basic business registration requirements for different types of entity. Businesses operated on a recurring basis may be set up with assistance from the local Regional Investment Centre (French, Arabic) and must be registered in the applicable trade register through the local Commercial Court. The relevant websites are included in the judicial directory (download). Depending on the type of activity you will be hosting, you may need to obtain additional licenses, and/or follow specific rules that apply to that activity, such as tourism-related activities which may require a license from the Ministry of Tourism. Please also see our information article on guiding tours in Morocco.

Some of these rules may not apply if you only host your experience on a one-time basis, rather than habitually. Even so, it’s best to confirm your position with your local authority or seek advice from a legal professional. It’s a good idea to also check what tax and accounting rules apply to you, and make sure you have the right insurance cover in place to cover all the activities you will be providing.
