On this experience, we'll hit the country’s oldest and largest everyday open-air market for some authentic, Philly foodie action: the 9th Street Italian Market. We'll take you into some of our favorite shops, meet some store owners and hear their personal stories of food, history, and community, perhaps sample some food, and tell you the not-so-common stories of one of the most colorful neighborhoods in Philadelphia. You'll get to see fresh produce stands (with incredible prices!), established cheese shops, cafes with fresh coffee, chocolate, and gelato, spice shops, and more. We both also like to stay open to visiting any shop that catches *your* eye, there's so many!
In addition to the market and its history, we'll also explore some historic and charming hidden side streets and eclectic and colorful mosaics and murals that only locals know about! The original "suburbs" of Philadelphia, these townhomes are now in the thick of it! And, of course, a visit to South Philly wouldn't be complete without some Rocky trivia and nostalgia (if you're so inclined).
