A Ten Apple Farm goat hike is a two hour recreational and educational goat experience. You'll meet your hosts (and our herd of Alpine dairy goats), and hear about their 16 years of experience with goats and living on a small family farm. Once we've met the goats and the many other animals residents of the farm, we’ll set off on a hike through the Ten Apple Farm woods with the goats and Philip our sheep! The hike consists of an approximately one and a half mile loop trail through our woods on lightly groomed trails. Along the way we’ll talk about goats as pack animals, what they eat, and you’ll learn a thing or two about raising and caring for goats. There's lots of time for interacting with the goats, asking questions, or just soaking in the Maine woods and these adorable, fun animals. We end the experience with fresh goat milk and homemade cookies! Please note: Children must be at least 5 years old and accompanied by an adult. 5 and 6 year olds should plan to hold a parent's hand during the hike. (Children under 4 must be carried). Other things to note: The hike is not strenuous, but there is a little bit of steep terrain in 2 spots. We have rope railings on the trail to assist with getting up and down in those spots, but guests who have bad knees, hips, or other difficulties with uneven or steep terrain should be aware.

Guests will board from the dock and we will take a tour of the boat, briefly discuss safe sailing practices and answer any questions. We will sail on the Saco River into Saco Bay and view Wood Island Lighthouse, Biddeford Pool & Old Orchard Beach. We will keep on the look out for marine wildlife. We have seen seals, porpoises, sharks and even whales. We will return to the same dock on which the guests boarded.

I can take up to 2 people per class and we will make ONE wood bowl together. I will start by showing a couple of videos of what we will be doing, followed by safety instructions before we dive in. No prior experience is required. I provide active hands-on instruction, demonstrations and enthusiastic encouragement. You will make all the creative decisions of wood type, bowl shape and size etc. I offer a selection of woods to choose from including locally harvested hardwoods purchased from me directly on the day of the class. NOTE! I can schedule this event any time or day - just let me know what day or time you want. Other things to note: Plan on getting covered in shavings! Wear work clothes and roll up long sleeves, remove watches and bracelets and long hair must be tied back. I will provide all safety equipment and advice. A materials fee of $12 to $30 covers the wood blank.

We will meet for a short orientation outside the barn. We will then introduce you to "the herd" and select a few horses to demo how to approach them, halter and lead them, groom them. You will then be helped to choose your own horse for the day. If the weather is cooperative, we can go for a short trail walk and perhaps see some of the wildlife who seem to be more comfortable and come closer when we humans are attached to a horse! Q and A is ongoing. All questions are welcome, and we will make every effort to gear the experience to the guests' individual ages and interests. Some may simply want the 'therapy value' of touching and communicating. Some may want information on how we care for the horses. Some may want a demo on how we show them in competition. Energetic guests may want to take a horse over a set of appropriately scaled jumps or obstacles. All can be arranged, and everyone in the group can do something different, as long as I can maintain my ability to be six places at once. :) We can also provide a special occasion for any age guest and his or her celebrants, with appropriate refreshments that you bring along or order here. Join Captain Joe for a relaxing private boat cruise over to our oyster farm where you will shuck and slurp oysters straight out of the water, and learn about our Shellfish Reef Restoration project. Feel free to bring along snacks and your favorite drink. I’ll make sure we have plenty of oysters and all the fixings for our favorite rum cocktail! This trip lasts 1.5-2 hours and is available for up to 6 people . Kids of all ages are welcome to come but I find that children ages 9+ get the most enjoyment out of this type of trip. I have a similar aquaculture trip that is designed for kids aged 4-13 if you are looking for a more family-friendly activity. I only host private groups and the total price including all fees is: $255 for up to 3 people, plus $85 for each additional person up to 6 max.

Lighthouse Bikes offers bicycle tours, close to a paved trail that connects the lighthouses of South Portland. Join us for a historic tour by bike to learn more about the rich history of this area while enjoying a leisurely ride! All bikes are classic Worksman cruisers with comfortable seats, handmade baskets perfect for picnicking and pedal brakes. Our tours cover topics from shipbuilding in Maine, to the local ecology, the history of the lighthouses and insider tips for folks new to the area. The ride is mostly flat and covers five miles.

This kayak tour will start at a local public kayak launch, with a brief lesson and safety demonstration. The tour will continue through the natural waterways as we spot wildlife against the primitive landscape. As we paddle alongside parks, canals, wooded shorelines, you'll take part in local stories and Maine made snacks. Relax and unwind with family and friends, and bring your favorite drink on board as we cruise around the rugged islands and rocky shoreline of Casco Bay for your very own Private Sunset Cruise. We start with a short boat ride over to a nature preserve island, anchor up in a quiet tidal estuary where there are usually lots of seals and eagles around. For groups who want a more interactive experience, I can describe our oyster reef restoration project while you get ‘hands on’ learning how to shuck oysters from our farm. For people who want to chill out and catch up with their group instead, I will happily shuck oysters and shake up our homemade rum cocktail while you chat amongst yourselves and enjoy the tranquility. Once everyone has a drink in hand we will hoist the anchor and head out into Casco Bay for the westerly sunset. You can listen to music on my boat’s soundsystem, or enjoy nature’s soundtrack. We typically visit three: Liars Bench, Great Rhythm, Earth Eagle, and/or Portsmouth Brewery, Stoneface, Loaded Question, Cisco (subject to chance and availability without notice). *Guests pay for beer tastings at each location, anticipate between $10-12 in tastings per person per brewery. Each guest will make two Bourbon cocktails (in their choice of style: Manhattan, Old Fashioned, or Sazerac). Each will use a very rare and expensive bourbon, (Which will include 2 of the following: EH Taylor, Elijah Craig 18yr, Weller full proof, Elmer T Lee, Blanton's or Stagg Jr.) a special vermouth, or syrup and a bitters made in the location of the tasting. Each guest will taste the rare bourbon, vermouth / syrup , and bitters independently of each other. There will be a tasting and discussion. There will also be a tour of the bitters making facility where the class is being held.

Each experience includes 12 oysters & toppings including lemon, cocktail sauce, hot sauce and our chef's homemade mignonette! Shucking knives and gloves are provided for use during the class. You will be greeted by a knowledgeable member of our Boom Shuck-a-Lucka team, a group passionate individuals all oyster farmers themselves. We will provide detailed step by step instruction on how to shuck an oyster. Participants will then start shucking & we will continue to work 1 on 1 with you as needed. In addition to learning how to shuck we will educate & hopefully entertain on the history of Maine oysters & our growing aquaculture industry. Additional food and drinks will be available for purchase as well.

Take a three-hour bicycle tour on the area lighthouses along the coast of Maine! Learn about the natural and cultural history of this area while cruising on 3-speed, Worksman bicycles, complete with comfortable seats, baskets for picnicking and pedal brakes. We will visit 3 lighthouses and see three more (depending on the fog). Lobster rolls available for lunch as an additional add-on!

On this two-hour coastal tour we will visit two lighthouses, a historic fort and a boat building memorial while riding our classic three speed cruiser bikes along a rail trail and seeing the natural beauty in this area. This is a 4 1/2 mile loop and is nearly all flat.
