clue in the name, this is an old-fashioned German dance-hall with a really nice outdoor seating area. They have a simple menu featuring pizza’s and salads, nice and easy on a nice day when you want to sit outside with a glass of wine

middle priced restaurant next to a lake in the Tiergarten and one of my favourites. German style food which also serves pizza. Often they have wood burning stoves going and you can take a walk around the lake after eating. The hot chocolate is recommended!

this and the next four bars are all on or close to Weserstrasse, which is the perfect place for a bar crawl. As the name suggests, this place is like a jungle inside. Cool atmosphere and good drinks.

large public square lined with impressive architecture. Two mirroring pretty buildings. In the Christmas the market is here and also an ice rink. At the south west end of the Gendarmenmarkt there is a chocolate shop called Fassbender & Rausch which sells delicious chocolate and has a café upstairs with Berlin’s best hot chocolate!

Gendarmenmarktlarge public square lined with impressive architecture. Two mirroring pretty buildings. In the Christmas the market is here and also an ice rink. At the south west end of the Gendarmenmarkt there is a chocolate shop called Fassbender & Rausch which sells delicious chocolate and has a café upstairs with Berlin’s best hot chocolate!

Pariser Platzfamous gate, kind of a must see to tick off and easy to walk past if visiting the Reichstag and the Holocaust memorial. Worth walking down the road into the tiergarten and seeing the photograph on the right hand side showing the gate when the Berlin wall came down.

one of the main summer palaces of Berlin. Built in the 17th Century and commissioned by Sophie Charlotte (wife of Friedrich III). Lovely gardens and good walking in the grounds.

It offers beautiful walks around the Sanssouci Park which also hosts some beautiful buildings. The centre of town is also very pretty and was much less damaged by WWII than Berlin.

If you can find it (it is near the ‘Goldfischteich’ not far from the Soviet War memorial) there is a statue of the three German composers which was the only object left standing in the Tiergarten after the battle of Berlin. It was restored but still shows signs of the bullet holes from the conflict around it.
