Very respectable Negiyaki. This restaurant is close to the apartment and as good as any negiyaki you'll find in Osaka. Strongly recommend you try :)

Lilo's is a 30 minute journey from the apartment but I'm a HUGE coffee fan. Their espresso is one of the best I've ever tasted. It's not so bitter and the coffee notes are really vivid. They take great pride in their coffee and you'll notice an expensive filtration system on the wall making sure the water is properly processed before you drink it.

Sightseeing

Housed in the Umeda Sky Building, Shin Umeda City is a monument to precise engineering, connecting two skyscrapers mid-air, while still managing to be earthquake-proof and beautifully designed. The half-mirrored glass that covers the building makes it seem like the garden on its 39th floor is suspended effortlessly in the sky, earning it the name 'The Floating Garden Observatory.' If you're afraid of heights, though, skip the Sky Walk and instead burrow safely into the basement and head back in time: Takimi Lane is a street of restaurants designed in the style of a forgotten Osaka, back when it was still known as the brilliant and ferocious Naniwa of the early Shōwa days.

Ōsaka-jō is one of Japan's most famous castles, having played a huge part in the unification of Japan in the 16th century, and a must-see if you only have one day to breeze through this old merchant city. The interior of the main building has since been gutted and redesigned into a modern museum that traces the history of the castle and its surrounding areas, but it's the outer grounds that draw visitors from across the world to admire the multicolored wonder. Osaka Castle Park is a prime spot for hanami (flower-viewing) in the spring, so if you like to mix your 'Home & Gardening' binge-watching with 'History Channel' exclusives, plan your next picnic at Osaka Castle.

Sometimes called 'Sumiyossan' by locals, Sumiyoshi Grand Shrine is one of Osaka's oldest religious institutions. Founded in the 3rd century before the advent of Buddhism, it's one of the few shrines whose architectural styles are considered purely Japanese and free of influence from the mainland. Sumiyoshi Shintō shrines are usually found near harbors, as they are said to enshrine the kami (gods) who watch over travelers, fishermen, and sailors at sea. Cross the incredibly steep but beautiful Sorihashi Bridge to this peaceful shrine and pay your respects for a safe journey home.

Tsūtenkaku, or the 'Tower Reaching for Heaven,' has served as a symbolic marker of Osaka since its construction in 1912 and resides in the colorful Shinsekai area of town, which was modeled after the streets of New York and Paris and once housed the huge Luna Park amusement park. Rebuilt and redesigned after WWII by the same man who'd designed the better known Tokyo Tower, Tsūtenkaku sports two observation decks that reach about as high as 100 meters off the ground for an unobstructed 360º panoramic view of the city. It's also home to a specialty store wonderland in its basement called 'Wakuwaku Land,' honoring big food names like Morinaga and Glico.

Right in the center of the southern part of town is the Namba District, where you'll find some of the most iconic images of Osaka being snapped by tourists — local and foreign alike — along Dōtonbori Canal. From the Glico running man to the huge crab sign at Kani Dōraku, this area — well known for its food, shopping, and nightlife — makes for an obligatory stop and a great ending point for the day.
