One of the oldest parks of the country, with beautifull big trees. You can enter the park right in front of the house, on the other side of the road.
Across the Stadsboerderij de Hout you can find a cosy playground: "De Kabouterspeeltuin".
In the summer the park is also the place for music festivals in the weekend. See http://www.cultuurparkdehout.nl/programma/ for the program (in Dutch). For juni/july it's the following:
24 juni, 13.00-17.00 uur: "De Hout Rocks"
8 juli, 13.00-17.00 uur: "Houtpop".

This is as close as you will get to heaven in Alkmaar. You can also enter the church through a window, where adorning the vaulted ceiling you will find the magnificent painting The Last Judgement by the renowned painter Jacob Cornelisz van Oostsanen.
