This Spanish restaurant has amazing views of the stupa. The owners are an awesome Spanish couple. Going there for churros and hot chocolate after a delicious Spanish lunch or dinner was a treat after several months of only Nepali food. Our Spanish friend said the food is just as good as what you get in Spain.

Kopan is a large Tibetan Buddhist Monastery that has a book store/library, restaurant and beautiful gardens that visitors can enjoy for the day. Take a taxi there and walk back so you can enjoy the neighborhoods between Kopan and Boudha Stupa.
Sightseeing
This is an amazing area. Catch a Taxi to Patan and spend the day exploring the narrow streets, small shops and temples throughout Patan. Eating lunch in the refurbished hotels is an amazing experience. This town is filled with artists who still make a living with their craft. Seriously, hand-carved doors and statues, metal sculptures, silver jewelry! It's incredible.

This is an amazing area. Catch a Taxi to Patan and spend the day exploring the narrow streets, small shops and temples throughout Patan. Eating lunch in the refurbished hotels is an amazing experience. This town is filled with artists who still make a living with their craft. Seriously, hand-carved doors and statues, metal sculptures, silver jewelry! It's incredible.
Shopping
This is one of our favorite places to get gifts. It's not the cheapest, but the quality is phenomenal and it's a fair trade shop that supports local artists, especially women, so every purchase actually helps the people of Nepal. I especially love their bags, handmade textiles and kids gifts. I have napkins, table cloths and dish towels from this shop that are over ten years old and they hold up to daily use!

Outside of the City, if you need a break from the fast-paced Kathmandu!
This small town, Pharping, is about a hour's taxi ride from Kathmandu, but it feels like it's days away because it is still a tiny, Newari town. Wander around the town or walk up the hills surrounding the town to hang prayer flags. There are several famous spots for Buddhists and Hindus in this area. We recommend visiting the Tara Temple and hiking up the stairs behind the temple to get a view of the area from the hill above.
