After a stroll along Great Pulteney Street, have a coffee and a bite, browse the free exhibition (and the paid for one if it's interesting) and then do as was first intended when the building was a hotel, walk through the cafe and straight out into the pleasure gardens beyond. For a pleasing round trip back to the apartment, drop down to the right onto the canal towpath and follow it to when it joins the river, almost all the way home.

The National Trust's Prior Park Landscape Garden is set in a sweeping valley where visitors can enjoy magnificent views of Bath. Open weekends only in winter, 10am - 4pm, last entry at 3pm. To get there, 1 mile steep walk from rear of railway station, or no. 2 bus from stop BK on Dorchester Street.
