Crater lake Sanctuary game reserve is a beautiful volcanic crater lake fringed with acacias. The jade-green crater volcanic lake is held in high regard by the local Maasai. A good place for the hiking enthusiast. The path is well-marked with arrows on painted on stones, so there was no possibility of getting lost. However, a guide is recommended to learn more about various hidden scenic sites and stories. The hike takes about 2hrs depending on one's fitness and experience. The Crater lake is within a distance to Savannah Villa.

Crater Lake
Crater lake Sanctuary game reserve is a beautiful volcanic crater lake fringed with acacias. The jade-green crater volcanic lake is held in high regard by the local Maasai. A good place for the hiking enthusiast. The path is well-marked with arrows on painted on stones, so there was no possibility of getting lost. However, a guide is recommended to learn more about various hidden scenic sites and stories. The hike takes about 2hrs depending on one's fitness and experience. The Crater lake is within a distance to Savannah Villa.
Savannah Villa Kedong is within a drive of Mount Longonot National park.
a great place for hikers to challenge themselves both mentally and your fitness.
The distance from the entrance of the park to the rim of the crater is about 3km and reaches an elevation of 2560m. The average person will probably start feeling the altitude affects around 2000m which is virtually the entire hike. The crater rim is another 7km or more around and reaches a peak of 2780m.
A few recommendations:
1. Bring at least 2 litres of water per person if you plan to hike the entire 10+ km. The altitude and incredibly fine dust make water very important.
2. Give yourself at least 3-5 hours to complete it and start early in the morning. We completed it in just over 3 hours (2 1/2 just around the rim) but the guides say most people take much longer.
3. Use walking sticks and bring a face mask if possible. Several sections are very steep and soft with fine, powder-like dust. The sticks will help slow you down on descents and the mask will help keep the dust-out.
4. Begin the hike to the right (counterclockwise) around the crater rim as the steepest sections are much easier to ascend rather than descend.
5. Please do not litter! Bring your bottles and trash back down with you in a backpack. Be responsible and appreciate the beauty of this amazing park.
