Brixton is a bustling place bursting with energy. You could spend lots of time here. Maybe start with a walk or a run around Brockwell park. Then visit Herne Hill for a coffee or the Sunday market, on the way to exploring Brixton. There are lots of nice restaurants and around the village. Okan is a favourite. Pop Brixton just over the road is a box park full of good food options. There are also gig venues - the O2 academy or electric Brixton. A short walk away, heading back towards the flat, you can find great vibes at Hootenanny or the Effra social.

There are a surprising amount of great places to go in Streatham Hill. Estate coffee does great cappuccino and pastries. Sw16 is a nice coffee/restaurant/wine/cocktail bar and also great as a proper workspace - there's a dedicated space with sockets on the tables etc The Monkey Leaf cafe and Baby spinach@yogarise further down are also great coffee/brunch spots. For more wine, Streatham wine house always has a nice vibe. The hamlet has a Jazz night on a Monday. Italian Bistro will serve you wonderful Pizzas for £5 at lunch time, and is so Italian they barely speak English (in a good way). Elements is as good a sushi place as you can find - authentic Japanese and great value just down the road. Beirut Vale is surprisingly good too - delicious cakes and good value/quality Lebanese food. Don't be fooled by "perfect blend"; their pizzas and burgers are fine but avoid their coffee and cake. The high street has almost every shop you can think of, eventually (it's very long), but I'm a big fan of wandering over to Balham, across the park...

Apple Blue Patisserie is my favourite brunch for miles. There's also a huge range of restaurants, some nice coffee shops (Milk, Brickwood on Hildreth St), ever popular pubs (like the Bedford or the Cyclist) and quite sophisticated night life - check out Heidi for steak and cocktails or Betto for tapas and wine. The Exhibit is also pretty cool whether you're looking for brunch, drinks, food or a workspace. If you walk there, it'll take about 25 mins (unless you stop off at the Hyde Farm cafe on the edge of Tooting Bec Common)

You can get to Victoria in 18 minutes on an air conditioned train that is usually 4x an hour. Once in Victoria you can quickly go anywhere on the tube network, but I'll suggest a day on foot: You can see Buckingham palace, or walk through St James's park towards Whitehall - stop on the bridge over the lake for a great photo op, especially at sunset. As much as South Kensington (two stops away on the district (green) or circle (yellow) lines) is rightly known for its museums, Churchill War rooms is one of my favourites and well worth a visit. You can also visit Parliament, for free. Finish the day with a walk over Westminster bridge and you can either walk along the river past the London eye if it's a nice evening, or head to 'lower marsh' for a drink (try scooter cafe), a coffee (four corners), dinner (Cubana, Unwined, Maries Cafe), or some board games (draughts). Or visit the biggest cinema in the country (BFI IMAX).

A lovely part of London, right next kings cross station (which you can get to directly on a train from Tulse Hill or via the Victoria line). There are lots of restaurants and shops etc in coal drops yard. Lots of people have heard of Camden but a much nicer way to get there would be to walk along canals from KX, for a completely different side of London life.

Only on a Sunday, but it's well worth a visit for local produce, cheese, cake etc.

Delicious for brunch. You will not regret carving out time to visit - there are a few of them in Kings cross, Covent Garden, Shoreditch. Also one of the best Indian dinners you can find in London, but expect to queue.

A wonderful old pub with cavernous cellars that never end and excellent fish and chips - it was rebuilt after the Great Fire of 1666, but Charles Dickens, G.K. Chesterton, Mark Twain and Dr Johnson (who said "when a man is tired of London he is tired of life) all drank here.
