Aberystwyth prom A visit to Aberystwyth is quite impossible without a walk, jog or mindfulness moment on the mile long Victorian promenade. The seafront also boasts the oldest pier in Wales (it was built in 1864), which offers the second best vantage point of Aberystwyth. And the best vantage point is at the end of north beach’s promenade, atop the 430 feet that is Constitution Hill.

Food scene

Welcome Y Bañera is a wine & cocktail bar offering prohibition & contemporary cocktails, fine wines & live music in a newly renovated setting overlooking Aberystwyth's Promenade. Bañera (b.a.n.i.e.r.a) n – Spanish for bath tub Bath Street, the name of this street is derived from the 1880’s when some of the town’s baths were housed here. Bath houses were a common feature of a Victorian town and were typically built near a water supply, hence their construction here near the seafront where there was ample water to meet the needs of the population. Although primarily used as a way of keeping clean the bathhouse was more than that, it was a place where people met, conducted business and friends exchanged gossip. There were two baths here at that time, one for men and one for women. Today we welcome you all to enjoy one Bañera.

THE MEDINA STORY. I decided that a little shop on Cambrian Place opposite Charlie’s was the place to start. A street that I had walked up so often throughout my life in my home town of Aberystwyth. The aim from the start was to provide good fresh food in a relaxed environment. The Ottolenghi cookbook completely inspired the style. Displaying the food for the customer means it has to be fresh. The menu was and is very different to anything else in the area and to my delight it has proved popular to a very wide range of customer. Producing this much fresh food each day isn’t easy and I’ve been fortunate that since day one I have had my friend Cheuk at the helm in the kitchen, relentlessly maintaining the standards that we set out to achieve from the beginning.
