Liverpool has the biggest single collection of Grade One listed buildings and more national museums and galleries than any other city outside London, with 2,500 listed buildings and 250 public monuments.
Officially known as the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King and locally nicknamed "Paddy's Wigwam", is the seat of the Archbishop of Liverpool and the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool. The two Liverpool's cathedrals are linked by Hope Street, which takes its name from William Hope, a local merchant whose house stood on the site now occupied by the Philharmonic Hall, and was named long before either cathedral was built. Quirky info: 'In 2012, incredibly, the cathedral was named one of the ugliest buildings in the world by American news network CNN.' https://www.liverpoolmetrocathedral.org.uk

A remarkable attraction in an unremarkable area of the city. Here is an extraordinary collection of tunnels and chambers commissioned by 19th century Victorian industrialist Joseph Williamson. His motivations for the work are still a mystery, but guided tours among what's thought to be just a small part of a much wider network offer plenty of insights. http://www.williamsontunnels.co.uk/

The Royal Albert Dock, a complex of dock buildings and warehouses, was opened in 1846. It was the first structure in Britain to be built from cast iron, brick and stone, with no structural wood. As a result, it was the first non-combustible warehouse system in the world. Today the Albert Dock is one of Liverpool's most important tourist attractions and a vital component of the city's UNESCO world heritage Maritime Mercantile City. It is also the most visited multi-use attraction in the United Kingdom outside London, with in excess of four million visitors per year. Amongst the many attractions at the Albert Dock are the Merseyside Maritime Museum, the Beatles Story and the Tate Liverpool. The only Slavery museum in the world is located in Albert Dock. Interesting fact: 'Liverpool was the first port using docks with artificial tides, reducing waiting time to serve the ships from 3 weeks to 2 and a half days.' 'After the discovery of the Americas and with more and more ships setting out to explore the rest of the world, sailors started bringing back some new products and the first bananas and pineapples to come to Europe came through Liverpool.' https://albertdock.com/ https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/merseyside-maritime-museum https://www.beatlesstory.com/ https://www.tate.org.uk/visit/tate-liverpool https://www.liverpoolmuseums.org.uk/international-slavery-museum

Is a collection of landmark buildings, recreational open space, and a number of memorials. It is part of the Liverpool Maritime Mercantile City UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site encompasses a trio of landmarks known as 'The Three Graces'. Royal Liver Building- is a grade I listed building consisting of two clock towers, both crowned by mythical Liver Birds. Cunard Building- is the former headquarters of the Cunard Line shipping company. Port of Liverpool Building-is the former home of the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board. These buildings are remarkable pieces of architecture and you can even find some Easter eggs on them. The Cunard building for example, on the right-hand side, above the windows, has stones engraved with all signs from the zodiac. Quirky info: 'According to popular legend, Liver Birds are a male and female pair named Bella and Bertie, the female looking out to sea, watching for the seamen to return safely while the male looks towards the city to make sure all the pubs are open (favourite Liverpool urban myth)'. 'The clock faces on the Liver Building are the biggest in the country. They are 2’6″ bigger than Big Ben in London!' https://www.visitliverpool.com/things-to-do/pier-head-and-the-three-graces-p17747

Where it all started. It's a MUST visit. Live music every day. Quirky info: 'The Beatles performed 299 times at the Cavern Club. Most of the time, the Beatles would perform during the day and people were so crazy about them they would queue in front of the Cavern Club during their lunch break, eating a sandwich on the go just to get to see them play a couple of songs.' For football lovers

Liverpool is a home of two famous football clubs- LFC and Everton FC. Take a tour to Anfield or Goodison Park, you won't be dissapointed.
It has been the home of Liverpool Football Club since their formation in 1892. It was originally the home of Everton from 1884 to 1891, before they moved to Goodison Park after a dispute with the club president. The club's first match at Anfield was a friendly played in front of 200 people on 1 September 1892, against Rotherham Town. Liverpool won 7–1. Outside the stadium is a bronze statue of Bill Shankly, famous LFC manager, in a familiar pose he adopted when receiving applause from fans and The Hillsborough memorial. The memorial is always decorated with flowers and tributes to the 96 people who died in 1989 as a result of the disaster. https://stadiumtours.liverpoolfc.com/tours Hide

Speke Hall is an impressive Tudor house surrounded by beautiful gardens and woodland. It is one of the finest surviving examples of its kind. It is owned by the National Trust and is a Grade I listed building. The gardens date from the 1850s. In the courtyard of the main building are two ancient yew trees, male and female, called 'Adam' and 'Eve'. They are estimated to be at least 500 years old.

Formby Beach is one of Merseyside's stunning coastal gems. This particular coastal area is undergoing erosion and the tides often reveal prehistoric mud layers laid down approximatelly approximately 8,000 – 5,000 years ago, and covered in the early Bronze Age. These sediments often contain the footprints of humans and animals. In June 2016, over 50 human footprints from 7,000 years ago were uncovered on the beach. The section of land between Formby and the coast is varied in vegetation, wildlife and terrain. This area includes pine forests (both natural and man-made), sand dunes, marram grass, deciduous woodland, seasonal ponds and lakes. Large areas of this land are protected by the National Trust. The high dunes afford excellent views across the Irish Sea and on clear days after rain, even the mountains of Cumbria can be seen.

Calderstones Park is home to ancient megaliths that are said to be older than Stonehenge. Its Botanical Gardens were founded in 1802. Almost 4000 species of plants are on show, brought from all over the world by merchants and other travellers. Visiors will also find the extraordinary Allerton Oak, also known as the Law Oak. It is claimed that 1000 years ago the Hundred Court sat under its spreading branches - the trunk is now hollow and its branches supported by stakes. Acorns and leaves from the oak were sent to soldiers by their families during World War II, such was the reputation of this tree. The tree was named England's 'tree of the year' in 2019 by Woodland Trust. https://liverpool.gov.uk/leisure-parks-and-wellbeing/parks-and-greenspaces/calderstones-park/

Hilbre Islands are the three tidal islands lying at the mouth of the Dee Estuary - Little Eye, Middle Eye and Hilbre. They are one of the most beautiful locations for walking in Wirral, or spotting rare and endangered wildlife. Hilbre Islands are also important as a stopping-off point for the twice-yearly migration of birds along the west coast of Britain. On the island is the Hilbre Island Bird Observatory. The summer months also provide a perfect opportunity to see Grey Seals swimming just off-shore, bobbing their heads above the water and watching those on the island. If weather and tides allow, taking a walk out to Hilbre Island is an absolute must when you’re in Wirral, and an experience you will never forget. The Islands are cut off from the mainland by the tide for up to five hours out of every twelve and so, before planning a visit to the Islands it is advisable to contact the Wirral Country Park Visitor Centre (after 10am 7 days a week).
