The entire area of Wieden en Weerribben is wonderful. its our backyard and our favorite spot in the Netherlands. Excellent for biking, walking, canoeing, touring bird watching, seeing deer, fishing, swimming in natural waters, relaxing etc etc
Blokzijl, Vollenhoge the village 'Nederland', Kalenberg, Ossenzijl and Giethoorn are a few places within this amazing region. Against what you would expect it is not touristic at all so where ever you are you feel the silence in this area of 100km2!

The old village of Urk is awesome! Streets tight as 2 meters wide where huge fishers families live. It is a very interesting fisher community.
If you come shortly before 17.00 on sunday you can watch all the families walking to their own church of which there are many in this town. You can not believe your eyes, as if you stepped back years in time. Most families wear only black to go to church.
A big attraction is to eat daily fresh fish in this town. There are many restaurants. One of the best places to eat famous kibbeling with fresh made ravigottesaus you find under places to eat. Don't miss it!

Giethoorn is a nice little village along a canal in the middle of National Park 'The Weerribben". The fanfare offers good food and they often have live music in the weekend.

To be in Urk and eat kibbeling with fresh made "Ravigottesaus", the best one in the Netherlands. Something you should not miss! Also Urk itself is very special to visit.

Our very favorite place to have dinner in the neighborhood. Exquisite food, prepared by Selma and served by Frans in a very neat and pleasant ambiance. if you go once you will want to return. Lovely!
