Okay, it's definitely touristy, but it's also really beautiful. Park near the plaza for a fun place to walk around with shops, restaurants, & a beautiful historic church.
This is a great starting point for anything in the Bosque -- the wooded area along the Rio Grande. Check out Paseo del Bosque bike trail (a paved trail that runs north/south for the entire length of the city). There is also an impressive network of dirt trails along the river that are awesome for dog walking.
