A favourite of ours, with live entertainment at times! Everything on tap and in can is handcrafted in-house. T-Bone’s first priority is quality, with key ingredients carefully selected both interstate and locally wherever possible. A great experience, and in easy walking distance.

Our favourite produce market, well worth a visit to feast on local produce! Every Sunday, 8.30-1pm, come rain hail or shine, a busy street in the heart of Hobart transforms into a bustling farmers' market. It's all about Tasmanian produce and getting to know your farmer, and it always has been. In from late December, January, and into early February, we are at the market selling Organic Apricots, from our orchards just outside Hobart. Come say hi!

Mouth-watering cake!! While you are wandering around historic Richmond, call in to see our good friend Ange for a light lunch and some of her scrumptious cakes at Ashmore. Just past the Christmas shop and La Fayette (where I buy most of my gifts from). Ange and her staff are always happy to chat.

Sightseeing

You'll love it or hate it!! Our favourite place to visit many times a year. An easy 11 km drive, or you can catch the MONA ROMA ferries along the river, under the towering Tasman Bridge, past the Cadbury Chocolate factory to MONA. There is a steep staircase from the ferry. All abilities access is from the car park, so best to drive if unable to walk on stairs. Excellent food on site in indoor and outdoor cafes. They have many entertainment afternoons on the lawn, so check out what's on while you are staying with us.

World class views from the top! It is a twisty 30 minute drive from the apartment to the top, but the Explorer Bus is a great alternative. The 21-km drive to the summit passes through temperate rainforest to sub-alpine flora and glacial rock formations, ending in panoramic views of Hobart, Bruny Island, South Arm and the Tasman Peninsula. No other city in Australia has a vista like this one. The interpretation centre at the top protects you from the blustering winds while an open viewing platform on the western side of the car park looks out to the World Heritage Wilderness Area beyond. There are barbecues, picnic facilities and bushwalking trails for all fitness levels. Mountain activities also include trail biking and abseiling. Park entrance fees do not apply and there are no opening or closing hours. The Pinnacle shelter at the summit is open to the public during the summer months (daylight savings) from 8 am - 8 pm, and during the winter from 8 am - 4:30 pm. Take a coat, you will need to rug up on top of our mountain!

We highly recommend taking the ferry for a visit to Mona. It is a gentle down sloping stroll from the apartment to where the ferry departs at Brooke St pier. Mona is located 10 kilometres from the apartment- approximately twenty-five minutes by ferry, or twenty minutes by road. The high-speed catamarans sail between Hobart’s Brooke Street Pier and Mona often, and take around twenty-five minutes one way. Please phone Ticket Support if you’d like to make a booking for a passenger under four. There are 99 steps upon arrival at Mona. The jetty isn’t accessible for mobility aids (wheelchairs, walking frames, scooters) or prams at the moment—we apologise for this and assure you we’re working on it (you’ll find more information about accessibility at Mona below). If this impacts your visit to Mona, please call Ticket Support to discuss your options.

Our grandchildren attend the local Richmond school, & we are very familiar with this area. A very easy drive through a scenic wine district gets you to Richmond, about 25 km north-east of Hobart. Richmond's most famous landmark is the Richmond Bridge, built in 1823 to 1825, around the time of the town's first settlement. It is Australia's oldest bridge still in use. St John's Catholic church was built in 1836, and is considered the oldest Roman Catholic church in Australia. St Luke's was built in 1834-1836 and is the oldest Anglican Church in Australia. The clock mounted in the church tower chimes the hour Is manually wound by a group of volunteers. The clock was previously from St David's Church in Hobart, which was demolished to build St David's Cathedral. St Luke's cemetery is located on Wellington Street, just before Paramore Street. The town was initially part of the route between Hobart and Port Arthur until the Sorell Causeway was constructed in 1872. Present-day Richmond is best known as being preserved as it was at that time. It is a vibrant tourist town, with many of the sandstone structures still standing. Many of these structures are built in the Georgian style. Highly recommend Sweets & Treats, Wattlebanks (hi Rodney!) or Ashmores (pictured) (say hi to the lovely Ange) for lunch, and a leisurely wander to look in all the beautiful historic buildings. Or you could get locked in the historic jail! Having said that, we're very friendly locals!

Not on the usual tourist lists as its run by mostly volunteers. You can see the underground cells, the courtroom, and the way in which our convict ancestors were treated by the system in the 1800s. Well worth a visit. You'll need to book.

Get a real sense of Antarctic history in this faithfully built replica of the hut used by Mawson in Antarctica. Hobartians have a close relationship with Antarctica, and many of us have friends or relative who have spent time on the research stations in the south. A friend of mine at CSIRO let me hold a several million year old ice core sample that they have, to study the bubbles inside to determine air quality and particles from millions of years ago! You can usually see one of the Antarctic vessels tied up at CSIRO Castray Esplanade wharf over autumn, winter of spring. They head south for summer!
