A nice relatively easy walk around Buttermere Lake (just under 5 miles) is a great way to spend a morning or an afternoon! Take a picnic or stop off at the cafe, lovely little ice cream shop too!

One of our favourite lakes to walk around, just a short drive from our air bnbs in Cockermouth. Around 8 miles to walk the full loop around the lake. Also a perfect place for wild swimming if you are brave enough, or letting the kids have a paddle on a summers day!

Just a 5/10 minute drive out of town takes you to the village of Wythop Mill where you can park near St Margaret's Church and begin your walk up Sale Fell. This is a relatively easy fell walk (around 3 miles) with stunning views from the top. Suitablefor little ones too (our 3 year old manages this one fine!)

Whinlatter has so much to offer. There's a wild play park dotted throughout the forest for kids, as well as a Gruffalo trail. There are some great walking/running trails through the forest, aswell as tracks for mountain biking. Siskins cafe is a lovely place to have lunch/coffee and cake. Here you will also find the Go Ape adventure activitiy throughout the tree tops!
