LOCAL FAVORITE!! Tony's has been around for decades and retains a retro diner feel. They have ice cream and fast food items. Stop by and ask about the best flavors! I’ve heard the milkshakes are better than the ice cream alone.

One of my favorite restaurants, inexpensive and sooo tasty! Enjoy Dominican Republic style empanadas and other items like egg rolls and rice bowls. They also have a boutique in the back! And a plus, the lady at the counter is so sweet!

Best breakfast spot within 5 minutes of our stay! Great coffee and inexpensive but delicious breakfast options. In the basement of the Esquire Hotel (also home of Barristers, a great restaurant). Park on the street, enter the front door and make an immediate right down the stairs.

Stop what you’re doing and go to Ray Nathan’s. BEST barbecue I’ve had, ever, probably. Brisket is incredible. Casual but fun environment. Hours are limited, check online.

Only 1 and a half hours from home, an absolutely beautiful town and beautiful drive through the Blue Ridge Mountains! Stop for local country store and homemade goodies on the way up and enjoy the cooler weather! Plenty of hiking and outdoor things to do, cute downtown scene, stop at the Mast General Store and Blue Deer for superb ice cream sandwiches and coffee. Take a drive down the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy incredible views.
