Great little coffee shop just a couple of minutes from The Nest, in a wonderful old building next to the Rondout Creek. They recently opened a restaurant as well. They sell many interesting culinary provisions, plus fresh baked breads, bagels, pastries and treats. I ordered a croissant that tasted convincingly Parisian. Sure enough, they ARE French--shipped frozen, and baked on the premises!

Sightseeing and Things to do
Reputed to be the oldest street in the US with the original houses. New Paltz was settled in the 1600s by a group of twelve (the "Duzine") French Protestants who sought religious freedom here. The local Lenape tribes from whom they purchased the swath of land guided them to build in this spot, just on the east side of the Wallkill River. If you are interested in early American history, don't miss having a tour of these houses.

Not only does the Preserve have the cliffs ("The Gunks") world famous among climbers, but it also consists of huge swaths of conserved land. Starting at the Gateway (which is in itself worth visiting), just west of New Paltz, the trails go all the way up the mountain, connecting to the those at Mohonk Mountain House and Minnewaska State Park.
