One of the most historically significant battles in naval history took place on December 7, 1941 at Pearl Harbor. Japanese mastermind, Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto is famously portrayed in the film "Tora! Tora! Tora!" saying "I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve." In the early morning hours of Sunday Dec 7, 1941 the Japanese launched a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor Naval station killing or injuring over 3000 servicemen and civilians sinking 4 battleships and damaging hundreds of other assets. The USS Arizona still lies at the bottom of the harbor to this day with a memorial in remembrance of those who lost their lives that day.
