This beautiful Model Village nestles in the grounds of the Old Vicarage. Set in nearly two acres of gorgeous landscaped gardens this is a real retro find - a quintessentially English visitor attraction. You will find scale models of Shanklin and Godshill villages as they were in the 1920's. The cottages, pubs and churches are faithfully reproduced versions of the real buildings in 1/10th scale. The garden railway is a must see - a snapshot of the Island Line of yesteryear! Godshill itself is a lovely village to spend the day in. Plenty of places for a cream tea, The Griffin Pub has a large child friendly garden and there are lots of giftshops to discover!

Once upon a time Puckpool Park was a Battery, built in the 1800’s to protect a perceived invasion by the French. Today you can still see the remains of the gun positions and armaments and it is a designated Scheduled Ancient Monument. It also has acres of open green space, woodland, cafes and play areas. Spend an hour or a day there, take a picnic, play hide and seek, or run around the grassed areas. With a café at each end of the seawall and the Old Barracks Restaurant in the park itself, there are plenty of options when it comes to dining. Tennis anyone? There are courts available alongside crazy golf, mini golf and a large play area. The park runs the length of the seafront so you can always re-locate to the beach if you fancy a change of scene and then head back into the park if you need some shade from the sun. The promenade provides a nice flat path for pushchairs and mobility scooters with easy access from both Ryde and Seaview.

Beaches

Just a five minute walk from the flat. The beach is gently sloping and has clear waters. Seagrove Bay sits between Springvale Beach and Priory Bay, the beach is a gently sloping expanse of golden sands and has clear waters making it popular for a whole range of beach activities and water sports. There is a slipway running down into the sea which is a regular launching platform for boats. The beach itself disappears at high tide, so make sure you check the tide times beforehand. When the tide is fully out it reveals a sandbar which helps make the water nearest the beach really calm and warm. There are toilet facilities at the bottom of the lane which leads down to the beach. Parking at the back of the beach is limited so you are best advised to park in Seaview and walk round to the beach.

Springvale Beach stretches from Puckpool to Seaview ande is just steps from the flat. It is made up of a mixture of shingle and sand. The beach has great views across the Solent to Portsmouth and the Spinnaker Tower making it the ideal location to watch the boats sailing by. The sea here is very clear and the gradient of the beach makes the water quite shallow at both high and low tide. This beach is often undiscovered by visitors making it a great place to visit to avoid the crowds in the busy summer months. The more easterly end of the sea wall is made up from large stone blocks, shaped into an elegant design by the sculptor John Maine. There is a popular gastro pub, The Boathouse, at the Puckpool end of the beach and also a café at the nearby Puckpool Park. Top tip If you are looking to buy food to take to the beach, then check out the cafe in Puckpool Park at the north-western end of the beach. If you are looking to break up your day at the beach Puckpool Park also has a number of great activities such as tennis, mini-golf and some great walks around the old Victorian fortification battery.

Priory Bay is a small privately owned bay on the northeast coast of the Isle of Wight. You can walk to it from the flat via Seagrove Beach. It looks out to Selsey Bill and its shoreline is approximately 600m in length, which has golden sand and woodland behind. The northern part of the bay has a straight coastline and is sandy with some pebbles. At the southern end the bay curves round to the east. Here the coast is rocky with evidence of walls and buttresses that were built to protect the coastline. The bay is surrounded by woodland known as Priory Woods owned by the National Trust. The sea bottom is predominantly sandy. A shallow sandbank called Gull Bank exists just offshore which keeps a long thin pool of water next to the beach at low tide. Beyond the bank, the bottom is gently shelving. The bay can be accessed by walking round Horestone Point from Seagrove Bay

Eateries

The Old Fort is a seaside pub & restaurant in Seaview, just five minute walk along the waters edge from the flat. Located right on the water’s edge on the Esplanade, our outdoor beachfront patio offers sweeping panoramic views of the Solent. The Old Fort has had an extensive re-design to include an improved downstairs bar and restaurant layout, an all new open-plan bar and restaurant space upstairs as well as improving the kitchen and cellar spaces to better suit the ‘new normal’ and to cope with the increase in demand. The island has so much to offer along its shores, coastal waters and woodlands. With an abundance of foraging, fishing and farming, The Isle of Wight is renowned for some of Britain’s best produce. With this in mind, they aim to offer a mix of delicious pub classics through to mouth watering daily specials, and are always looking to provide fresh, local and seasonal produce, service with a smile, all in a relaxed and cosy environment. The owners have taken some time to revamp their drinks selection with some fabulous award-winning local ales, dozens of rather delicious new wines added to their list with a vast selection available by the glass as well a fantastic gin collection including the fabulous Isle of Wight Distillery’s “Mermaid Gin”. Owned and run by Justin & Will, two locals who grew up just a stones throw from the front door – their aim is simple: to bring top quality, affordable food to the East Wight, have fun whilst serving it and make long lasting happy memories for all their loyal customers.
