Ernest and Son Meat Market is an old-fashioned butcher shop that was founded by Ernest Storino and his son, Sam, in 1977. Brigantine native Mel Cortellessa was hired in 1985 at the age of 13 as a cleanup kid and shelf stocker. He fell in love with the business, learned the trade and bought the business from Sam in 2007.
Today, our staff strives to keep the same traditions alive that we practiced 40 years ago. Ernest and Son Meat Market provides the area with fairly priced, quality meats. Stop by to see this piece of history for yourself.

Sightseeing
A bit more than a quarter of a mile concrete walkway that's raised a few feet above the sand and the sea, at the far north end of the developed section of Brigantine.
While not a technical boardwalk, it does have some of the amenities of modern boardwalks. There's a coin-operated set of binoculars for looking out to sea, just like you find on many boards that tend to draw more tourists. Walk along and you'll spot a few mileage markers, as you do on lots of boardwalks today - although, given the small scale here, it's more accurate to call them tenth-of-a-mile markers.
Keep a close eye out on the ocean for dolphins passing by!

The undeveloped shrub/scrub habitat between the fore-dune and the platform attracts passerine species and small mammals. This is a popular beach for surf fishing through most of the year.

Diamondback terrapins nest on the bay-side beaches. Surf fishing is good for striped bass, bluefish, summer flounder, kingfish, skate, smooth dogfish and croaker. Pods of bottlenose dolphin can be seen close to shore. Shorebirds dart along the surf line after invertebrates. Piping Plover, Black Skimmer, American Oystercatcher and Least Tern are among endangered species nesting on the beach. Osprey carry fish to their nestlings. At dusk, ghost crabs and Clapper Rails become active.

The Brigantine Farmers Market, located in the Brigantine Community School parking lot (Sheridan Blvd Side), will be open to customers on May 29th, 2021 (Memorial Day Weekend) and will run every Saturday (rain or shine) until Saturday, September 4th, 2021 (Labor Day weekend).
