Hiking and swimming
Wimberley's Blue Hole has been ranked among the best swimming holes in the state of Texas and even the nation. It is the centerpiece of Blue Hole Regional Park that encompasses 126 acres with natural grasses, delicate wildflowers, towering cypress trees, and massive limestone slabs. The swimming hole is wildly popular, and reservations are required. However, the park remains open for walkers who want to enjoy the park's serenity or enjoy a picnic. The entire park is open to visitors within the regular operating hours; however, swimming is only allowed during the designated swimming season. The park includes picnic areas, a community pavilion, playscape, basketball court, sand volleyball court, amphitheater, the Blue Hole Swimming Area, and 4-1/2 miles of hiking and biking trails.

If you are up for a little exercise, head on out to Mount Baldy and climb the 218 steps to the top.
Once at the top of the 218 rock steps, you rewarded with a 360-degree view of the Wimberley valley.

Please note that reservations are required for Jacob's creek swimming. The use of trails does not require a reservation but might be closed off if too many people enter the area at once during COVID.

It is one of my favorite local places for a good hike. Make sure to wear good shoes and bring plenty of water.

It offers seven miles of natural surface trails lined with oak trees draped in Spanish moss and is open to the public for hiking, biking, birding, photography, and is a perfect companion to a visit to The Meadows Center.
The drive from Wimberley to Blanco is a beautiful Texas country road. Make sure to take Ranch Road 32 over the Devil's backbone that suddenly rises to 1,274 feet above sea level. Look for the roadside park with a view of the ridge and the surrounding valleys. The Devil's backbone is said to be haunted, and locals claim to have seen or heard the ghosts of Spanish monks, Native Americans, and early settlers.
Once in Blanco, you can access the park from U.S. 281.
It is a 104.6-acre park, along a mile of the Blanco River. It features camping, picnicking, screened shelters, swimming, tubing, nature trails, and a wildlife viewing station.

Canyon Lake features seven public parks with excellent outdoor recreation opportunities. Activities include camping, fishing, swimming, SCUBA diving, picnicking, wildlife viewing, boating, and other water sports. Many of the parks offer restrooms and picnic tables.
The following Canyon Lake public parks, managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, are located along the lakeshore:

Just above Canyon Lake, the Upper Guadalupe River affords some of the most exciting whitewater in the state, while the lower segment is favorable for canoeing and tubing. There are many tube outfitters on the river but make sure you call ahead and check on COVID restrictions.

The adjacent Back Porch Cafe serves light fare as well as beer and wine. We are less than five minutes away from Cypress Falls, so definitely a place to check out.
