Walks in the area

There are a few short walks through lovely reserves within close walking distance to our home.
Here is a link with information about Johnson Reserve, a nice walking area to explore. https://exploretauranga.co.nz/welcome-bay-johnson-reserve/ Walk to the end of our street (Awanui Place) and turn left onto Welcome Bay Road. Walk along that road for around 20 minutes. You’ll pass the Welcome Bay dairy / foodstore on your left and then down the hill on your right you will see the entrance to Johnson Reserve. There are multiple paths to explore. Enjoy!

With the start of the track a stones throw from our place, this easygoing 35 minute round trip walk through bush following the estuary coastline is good for both adults and kids. Accessible with stroller / buggy. It connects to the heritage site of the Te Ouwe Pā at the headland near Fantail Drive Reserve. Directions: note the marked start and finish points on the map. Walk to the end of our street (Awanui Place) and turn right. You'll be on busy Welcome Bay road, with the gully and a stream flowing under the road viewed to the right. Once you get to the lights near Hammond Street, turn right and start going up the hill. The gravel start of the track is on the right partway up the hill and turns into a boardwalk hugging the estuary and winding through bush until you come into a residential clearing, Fantail Drive Reserve. There is an outdoor table and chairs and a large lawn there, great for a family picnic.
