Across the street from the unit is a trailhead to this 900 acre hiking/biking trail.
Using the park's network of service roads and narrow footpaths, it's possible to follow most of the six-mile length of the main Tecolote Canyon and to poke into several of its tributary "finger canyons." By day you can spot hawks and ravens soaring on the strong coastal breeze blowing up the canyon. By night, you might hear the yapping of a coyote or the plaintive hoot of an owl, the creature for which this canyon was named.

La Jolla Cove is San Diego’s most desirable spot for kayaking, snorkeling and diving. The water is calm and ecologically protected, providing a safe home for colorful garibaldi, yellowtail, rays and even leopard sharks. Because the water is protected, surfboards, boogie boards and other floatation devices are not permitted. The beach itself is small, but nearby Scripps Park offers a nice grassy expanse for spreading out.
Visually, the cove is a breathtakingly gorgeous gem. Somewhat hidden with alluring curves and caves, it is often cited as the most photographed beach in San Diego. This ocean view's striking beauty simply cannot be overstated.
Parking is available in nearby paid lots, with a few street spots available for the lucky.
Swimming and scuba diving are allowed. Lifeguards are staffed year-round from 9:00a.m. to dusk. Beach is accessible by public transportation.
This beach has bathroom and shower facilities and picnic areas. No alcohol or glass containers allowed, no overnight camping, and no smoking on the beach or adjacent areas.

At the west end is a network of channels and islands - a perfect spot for everyone from windsurfers to water- skiers. You can swim, enjoy the sun or rent a boat to explore the thousands of acres of waterways.
Mission Bay Park offers boat docks and launching facilities, sailboat and motor rentals, bike and walk paths, basketball courts and playgrounds for children. It is one of San Diego's most fun-filled spots to visit.
Many people prefer to stay on shore and spend their leisure picnicking, riding a bike along the paths, playing volleyball, or flying a kite. There are close to 14 miles of bike paths along Mission Bay.
Public restrooms and showers are available and lifeguard stations are located in designated areas.
