A nice place to hang out and have a picnic. There are a number of huge playgrounds, a cafe, and the canoe club. A loop of the lake is about a 40 minute walk.

It's deceiving because the first 2km is a relatively easy walk in native NZ bush. Then it's 1349 steps straight up! The challenge is to make it to the top without stopping

Not for the faint of heart and we would recommend hiking boots or sneakers you're not afraid of getting covered in mud. In winter it's a pretty treacherous track, in summer it's more doable - but still muddy bits along the way. A real achievement when you make it to the top, and there is a Doc hut at the top that you can book if you're early enough.
