This is probably our favourite pub in the country and we are blessed to have it so close. Nestled in the peaceful Lickle Valley, surrounded by farm land and fells the Blacksmiths Arms has been providing a warm welcome for nearly 300 years. Today, it is run by Sophie and Michael who continue to offer a relaxed and warm welcome to this unique Lakeland Pub. They believe that the historic interior of the pub, its location, its reputation for good food and drink and its place in the local community make the Blacksmiths Arms a special place to visit and we definitely agree.

This is a favourite family walk from the house. It is an easy 30 minute walk to the Stone Circle and you can see the route on the kitchen map. Either cross the road and then take the track down and across the back or follow the old road via Broadgate if you wish to avoid the stepping stones.

One of the reasons we love the Western Fells of the Lake District so much is that they receive a fraction of the visitors that Central Fells do, especially in the summer. At the heart of the area is the spectacular Duddon valley with plenty of walks, swimming and a pub for lunch.

This famous village lies at the centre of the Lake District and well worth a visit in its own right. Hawkshead is an ancient township that has flourished since Norse times, belonging to Furness Abbey until the 12th Century. The monks owned Hawkshead Hall, just outside the village, of which the National Trust owned Hawkshead Courthouse is all that remains. After the dissolution of the monasteries in 1537, Hawkshead grew as a market town, with many buildings dating from the 17th Century.
