Not just any bakery. Ken's is one of the best French bakeries in the Pacific NorthWest. That is verifiably true, because Ken has been designated a "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" a special title that is difficult even for French bakeries to obtain. And it's only 3.2 miles from my front door!

Getting Around
Technically it's Washington Park, but everyone calls it the Zoo's MAX stop. It's almost exactly one mile from my house, and there's a cool shortcut through the woods to get there. On nice days, it really can't be beat.

When it was built in the 1960's it was one of the first such shopping malls in the country. Lloyd Center practically invented the concept of shopping malls, and it has grown and matured over the years. You can find just about anything imaginable here, all within seven miles of my house.

In addition to hosing at my home, I'm an Airbnb Experience host for the Arboretum, and can show you some of the most amazing and memorable trees you'll ever see! All within a half mile walk from my home!

The one downside is that it is expensive for a park. Almost all other parks in Portland are free...this one costs around $15; but it is truly beautiful. Within about 2 miles from my home.
This beautiful walk along the riverfront is always enjoyable, on foot or on one of Portland's inexpensive rental bikes. A really fun ride is to take the bike paths on both sides of the river; there are excellent bike trails and you can easily cover the downtown core area river paths in about an hour or two. A great way to spend a sunny afternoon!

A really fun ride is to take the bike paths on both sides of the river; there are excellent bike trails and you can easily cover the downtown core area river paths in about an hour or two. A great way to spend a sunny afternoon!
Just over 34 miles from my home, you can easily drive there in under an hour. But I'll advise you to take a longer, more scenic route via the Columbia River Highway, another iconic local sight to see, and enjoy several beautiful waterfalls, and numerous other day hikes through the Columbia River Gorge, one of the most beautiful natural areas in the world.

But I'll advise you to take a longer, more scenic route via the Columbia River Highway, another iconic local sight to see, and enjoy several beautiful waterfalls, and numerous other day hikes through the Columbia River Gorge, one of the most beautiful natural areas in the world.

Unique to Portland, the Kennedy School is one of my favorite places in town. It is completely original in concept. Who would have thought to make a bar/movie theater/restaurant/brewery/multi-use complex out of a former grade school? Only in Portland will you find such an original and beautifully executed concept. This is a must-see spot.
