Access to the Monastic City: The monuments and lakes are accessible all year round at anytime of the day however the car parks may have the barrier down early in the morning and late in the evening. There is no charge to see the Monastic sites(churches/round tower) or the Upper and Lower Lakes except the car park fees for the Upper Lake and the Visitor Centre at the Monastic Site.

Go to Greystones, drop car in Park and Ride (free) walk to the Marina and go past the boats to the left hand side of the steel fence (it looks awful but trust me) keep walking and you get past the building works and up over the mountain on the ciffs on a safe walk with views out over the sea, spot birdlife, summer flowers, seals and dolphins. spectacular.

Actors play the parts of the inmates and it really is quite chilling being there and seeing the scratches on the walls. Night time tours (in the dark naturally) are often on and the place is meant to be haunted, regularly ghost sightings have occurred there. Spooky
