In a mountain village this taverna is the real deal - a wonderful and very authentic Taverna “Ta Lytrata” serving great Greek food and local specialties using the world famous Eglouvi lentils. She also makes the best cakes and puddings on the island!

This is a wonderful taverna run by the indomitable Maria. She grows and cooks all the food herself. The restaurant is SO beautiful. the tables are set out in her garden under an ancient Judas tree. You will love it. Do phone and book in advance as she only has a few tables. You will look back across the valley to Mystiko from Kolivata.

Kaypso is a lovely taverna right on the beach at Madhouri Bay away from the bustle of Nidri town. Sit on the beach and watch the sun turn the mountains pink and the sea to silver. My favourite dish is the potatoes with cheese from the oven. Delicious. You may need to book in the high season. You should be able to park on the road outside, if not use the main car park.
Take your swimming things and have an evening swim. There are showers on the beach.
If you are lucky enough to be there on the night of the full moon it is magical seeing the moon rise over the mountains and sea. Beats a sunset any time.

This is a crazy local museum of embroidery. Karya is "famous" for an embroidery stitch that was invented by a lady with one arm. Great fun eccentric local museum

Lots of shops and tourist gift shops here and small family run supermarkets.
If you want to see the real Greece spend a morning in Lefkada town and watch the locals busy about their business. Get lost in the flower strewn Venetian old town, stopping for a Greek coffee and Boughatsa ( custard pie).
Great fun in the evenings. Nothing really gets going till about 10am in the Summer.

This is the iconic beach you see on all the photos. It is a one and a half to two hour drive to get to it. The parking can be chaotic and in summer it will be busy. But it is worth it to swim in the turquoise waters. Buy honey from the old ladies you will pass on the drive.

This is a great day out. The Christina is a beautiful boat and they take you to the secret uninhabited islands and beaches only accessible by boat. You swim, eat, drink, swim, sleep. You may see dolphins and you may see seals.
If you are lucky enough to be there when they run the Sunset and Stars night cruise, go on it. It's great if you are remotely interested in the night sky.

The M/S Christina
This is a great day out. The Christina is a beautiful boat and they take you to the secret uninhabited islands and beaches only accessible by boat. You swim, eat, drink, swim, sleep. You may see dolphins and you may see seals.
If you are lucky enough to be there when they run the Sunset and Stars night cruise, go on it. It's great if you are remotely interested in the night sky.

The gorge and waterfalls are amazing. You can swim in the icy cold pool where the waterfall enters the gorge. There is a lovely taverna at the start of the walk. It is about an hours walk.
Buy your honey while you are here from the local beekeeper. It is delicious. My favourite is the Pine honey. Food of the gods.

The gorge and waterfalls are amazing. You can swim in the icy cold pool where the waterfall enters the gorge. There is a lovely taverna at the start of the walk. It is about an hours walk.
Buy your honey while you are here from the local beekeeper. It is delicious. My favourite is the Pine honey. Food of the gods.
This is the stunning turquoise waters and deserted beach you dream of, BUT you have to walk to it. Park in Aghias Nikita and follow the signs for the Milos beach. Its about a 30 minute walk.

The South coast is about a 40 minute drive from Villa Mystiko depending on how brave you are with the mountain roads. There are shorter roads over the small mountain roads but not for nervous drivers or passengers.
Kathisma beach is a long sandy beach with turquoise waters. The sea can be rough here and in my view is best for strong swimmers. I would definitely supervise children carefully here but they will love the waves. There are lots of cool bars, beach activities, sunbeds and as night falls its a popular place to party and watch the sunset.
This is a busy, "where it's at" beach.

Kathisma beach is a long sandy beach with turquoise waters. The sea can be rough here and in my view is best for strong swimmers. I would definitely supervise children carefully here but they will love the waves. There are lots of cool bars, beach activities, sunbeds and as night falls its a popular place to party and watch the sunset.

If you want to walk there are wonderful walks from Villa Mystiko. Put stout shoes on, leave the villa from the gate by the pool and explore. Scramble down the Olive groves to the path below the house then follow the track to the small hill you can see from the house. The view over the islands are amazing.
Or simply explore the many tracks and paths around the village. Say "Yassas"( hello) to the locals when you see them.
You will see and hear eagles.

If you want to walk there are wonderful walks from Villa Mystiko. Put stout shoes on, leave the villa from the gate by the pool and explore.
