Poplar Forest is Thomas Jefferson's summer home. It is a unique, octagonal house, with beautiful wood work. It has a huge wine cellar and often there are special services and activities on the property of many acres.

This special place is beyond words to describe. Your tour guide will tell you stories and history that will leave you in awe as much as the scenes and statues you will see. We consider it a "must see" while you are this close to Bedford, VA!! Well worth the time and money to visit it.

Parks & Nature
You can hike to the top of either, or both Sharp Top or Flat Top mountains to enjoy the breathtaking views. There are picnic areas and camping areas, a big pond at the lodge with a lovely hiking trail around it. While you are in the neighborhood there, look up Johnson's Orchards. They always have something fun to do when you have had your fill of the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

There are picnic areas and camping areas, a big pond at the lodge with a lovely hiking trail around it. While you are in the neighborhood there, look up Johnson's Orchards. They always have something fun to do when you have had your fill of the beauty of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
This is a beautifully kept park and playground. There are picnic tables and pavilions, tennis courts, baseball and soccer fields, a disc course, and many miles of paved walking trails and many miles of top rated bike trails. It is not uncommon while walking the trails to see deer, birds, and other wildlife nearby. There is a stream, Ivy Creek that winds through too. It is a favorite place of all ages to visit, and popular with the locals!
