Usually crowded during summer, gets a lot emptier if you continue to walk for a bit. if you visit during wintertime: grab a "glühwein" (hot mulled wine) at the stall at the beginning of the beach.

Everything Else
Rent a bike and take some food/drinks with you when you go because you wont be able to buy any on the way after the Elbtunnel.
Visit the Elbtunnel and continue on the other side of the Elbe on the Hermann-Blohm-Straße. Turn left twice and continue until you reach the river bank. Nice place to hang out! Great view of Hamburgs skyline and the crowded "Landungsbrücken" on the opposite site of the river.
