Hiking
Black Canyon National Park is one of the most popular sights in this area. There are several trails to hike, with stunning views from each. The upper rim trail is very easy, kid friendly, and about a mile long. The deeper trails are more difficult. In the spring, be sure to wear hiking boots or have spikes if you are going down into the canyon as it is wet. It is still cold in spring as well so bring a hat and jacket. Plan to spend the day in Black Canyon, only about 20 minutes from the house!

The Potholes at Escalante Canyon are a short 45 minute drive away! Go see what nature has created in the river beds. Hike down the canyon wall, to the river base and then follow the river upstream to reach the potholes. This hike took us about 5 hours and the potholes were as smooth as cereal bowls.

Box Canyon is about 50 minutes away, and worth every minute. This hike is unlike anything you’ve ever experienced before. The upper hike takes you over a suspension bridge over the canyon, where you can see the waterfall into the canyon. The lower hike takes you over a metal suspension pathway down deep into the canyon, until you reach the bottom where the waterfall crashes down. It is a bit loud inside the canyon, but worth every second! This hike is about 5 hours total.

Horsefly Brewery has amazing wings! I recommend trying the fried mushrooms, and the fries (the battered kind!) They have an expansive menu and an awesome outdoor seating area.

Located underneath a hotel and deep into the mountain in Ouray, you’ll find this silent spa, where you can submerge yourself into mineral saturated hot spring water (without the sulphuric smell) and then cold flash with waterfall water, and repeat. About $25 per person.
