This is a forest and place of natural beauty. Until recently only enjoyed by local residents. You can walk through the woods to see the monastery on the slopes of the Eume Canyon.

This is probably the most famous beach in Galicia but it is about 2 hours drive from the villa and you must reserve entry previously. But there are many beautiful beaches on the wild Atlantic coast, so I would go towards Noia and once your there turn either north or south and find somewhere you like. To the south are the beaches on Porto do Son, Porto Sin and to the north is Muros. Anywhere in these directions will take about 1/2 hour from the house to the beach.

Neighbourhoods

There is a lovely, shady walk to Bertamirans from the villa which is about 2km. Once you get to the town you will find everything you need, shops, public transport, medical centre, police, bars, cafes and restaurants. It is great to go to Plaza Chavian where the children can play in the park and you can sit out on the terrace of Cafe de Noe and enjoy a refreshing drink and delicious tapas. There are many other great eating places - Petiscos, Pico Pao, A Galerna, New York, Val da Mahia, Tasca A Eira. Just try them all and chose your favourite and the food is great value for money.

City/town information

This the world heritage pilgrimage site where the bones of Saint James are laid to rest. There are many recognised routes to get there and they all end at the Cathedral. The old town is worth a visit and if you can get into the cathedral and embrace Saint James then you will be blessed. Also a sight to see is the "Botafumeiro" - the enormous incense burner that is swung in certain masses, but it is very popular so you might need to queue. Some places to eat in Santiago - personally tested - are Mama Peixe, Bodeguilla de San Roque, places around the Plaza de Abastos - definately avoid the streets around the cathedral unless you are looking for tapas. The best spanish tortilla in Santiago can be found at Bar La Tita and should definately be tried at any time of day or night!

Lugo is a walled city at about 1 hour from the villa by motorway. The wall is a world heritage site and you can walk most of the way round. The old town is well preserved and contains historic monuments, religious buildings, shops and cafes.
