I like to access this natural area through the Greenwood Drive entrance to Sea Pines and take the Lawton Plantation boardwalk through the historic rice field. The 4,000 year old Indian Shell Ring is also worth a visit. The ponds in the forest preserve are stocked with bass and bluegill. Located on Hole 15 of the Arthur Hills Golf Course in Palmetto Dunes, this unique landmark has no special parking area - you have to simply pull into the grass along the side of the road. There has been only the minimal work to keep it preserved, but that maintains its true historic character.
