Café Hawelka is a traditional Viennese café in the first district. The place's specialty is the Buchteln dessert by an original recipe by its founder Josefine Hawelka. In the 1950s, 60s and 70s Artists gathered here and it became a central meeting place in the art scene of the time.

These gardens ("Burggarten") were once the private gardens of Emperor Franz Joseph I., the husband of the Empress Sisi. In 1919, three years after the monarch's death, the Burggarten was opened to the public.
