The sun is strong in the summer, although it's cooler in the shade at Coral Cottage than in the Okinawa towns - and significantly cooler than Tokyo. You can burn even while swimming. As in any natural environment there are dangers such as jellyfish and stonefish. Rashguard swimsuits are good for both sun and sea life.

Car, bicycle, motorbike, ferry, bus, taxi
Car, bicycle and motorbike are the easiest ways to get around. Even in the heat of summer, cycling is surprisingly possible!
A different way to get to Motobu from Naha is by ferry. Ferries also run from Motobu to Iejima, and from Unten-ko to the islands of Izena and Iheya.
The Yanbaru Express bus company runs services every day year round from Naha Airport to Unten Port. The closest stop (about 2.5 km) to Coral Cottage is the Orion Hotel at Bise. A taxi can be ordered to take you from there to Coral Cottage (Paparagi Okoku). Local buses run to Nago.

Cooling down in the summer
In the summer, local families drive up to the rivers, pools waterfalls and reservoirs in the mountains to the east of Nago to cool off - such as Tataki and Todoroki waterfalls. A firm favourite!
