It looks like it was locked 30 years ago. It has a sign that says if you ask in the restaurant they will let you in! I haven’t done it yet, but I hope to soon.

It looks like it was locked 30 years ago. It has a sign that says if you ask in the restaurant they will let you in! I haven’t done it yet, but I hope to soon.

A must! Great hiking. Make sure to drive up or walk up Mt. Scott. Challenging 3 miles up to walk. It is open for hikers before noon during the weekends and all day Monday-Thursday. Beautiful views.
Just driving through the refuge is relaxing. Prairie dogs can be seen on the turn off to the Holy City. Keep an eye out for the bison and longhorn cattle.
The best time to see elk is close to sunrise and sunset. The Jed Johnson/ Rush Lake area and out towards the west side of the refuge can be good spots, but timing is more important than location.
