Great authentic Japanese food, great Japanese style drinks, and the staff try extra hard to create a crazy and social atmosphere. Free sake tastings and other crazy promotions occur regularly. Good for couples or groups up to 6.

Food Scene
While this is a Korean owned Japanese restaurant, the service and quality of the sushi and sashimi is good. They also have a variety of hot food including ramen, katsudon, and udon. Most of the hot food is not authentic in style and should be avoided unless desperate. Kura is much better than "Zorizo", the other nearby Korean-run Japanese sushi train restaurant.

Most of the hot food is not authentic in style and should be avoided unless desperate. Kura is much better than "Zorizo", the other nearby Korean-run Japanese sushi train restaurant.
This is the most famous Izakaya in Sydney with the Japanese community who live here. The food is not amazing in quality, but the prices are very low, the drink selection is vast, and the atmosphere is always social and energetic.

Located in the Star Casino's food court, Gojima specializes in burgers made with fried rice patties covered in seaweed instead of bread. Apart from that obvious change, the burgers have an authentic American fast food flavour. Gojima also serves beer, chicken wings, and a mushroom burger for the vegetarians. The fries seem to be double fried. It's worth a try, you might like it.

Kensington StreetWhile not in Pyrmont, Spice Alley in Chippendale is worth a worth a look - it's a nice semi-outdoor Asian food market lit by lanterns, with a bunch of small permanent food stalls offering Thai, Viet, Malaysian, Chinese, and Japanese. The serving sizes are usually quite small so you can sample a few different places.
If you're looking for cheap, fast coffee and a snack or light meal, Big Mouth is worth a look. It's owned by a nice Chinese lady, and it specializes in jaffles (closed toasted sandwiches), with tasty fillings like Bolognese or Italian style chicken and avocado. Freshly squeezed juice is also available. I would have overlooked this kind of place if my mum didn't try it first, but it turned out to be one of the best value eats in Pyrmont.

Din Tai Fung inside the Star's food court has been a regular for me whenever I crave dumplings and want to stay in Pyrmont. While much more expensive than Chinatown, (four dumplings here is around $6-8, whereas I can get 16 in Chinatown for $10) the dumplings are freshly made and high quality. I recommend the shrimp and pork jiaozi!

It took me a while to find a solid old fashioned English big breakfast in Pyrmont, amongst the lightweight and overpriced hipster options. The answer is Anna Li's cafe, which is quite tricky to see from the street. Like most places that still serve old fashioned Western food - it's run by an Asian guy! He does a great job with his big breakfast, fries, burgers and Viet style rolls, as well as coffees and fresh juices. All for very low prices.

Pirrama Park is a nice stretch of parkland along the water, with BBQ areas, a playground for kids, an art installation, a few jetties for boats, some restaurants and cafes nearby, and a bunch of other stuff to look at :)

Dr. Charles Lai at Star Medical Practice is one of the best General Practictioners I've ever used, and even referred me to a Rhodes Scholar surgeon who saved my life via the public system. He's usually booked out so you need to book your appointment one day before.
