One of the most important museums in Europe. Here you can see the evidence of the Minoan civilisation like jewellery, pottery and frescoes. All the collections are original. The most significant exhibits are the golden bees jewellery, the Faistos disc, the godness of snakes and the lily Prince frescoe. The most ancient exhibits date back to 7000 BC and the historical presentation is completed with the Roman exhibits dated around 100AD. In this museum you can find out more about the history of Crete from the Christian years to nowadays. Some of the highlight collections are the numismatics, the World War II and the ethnographical. The representation of the house of Nikos Kazantzakis and two paintings of El Greco who were both born in Crete, are magnificent! The Cafe has beautiful sea views and the breakfast is delicious!

The fortress of Koule was built around 1500. Initally it was used as a fortress in order to identify and deter the pirates and later as a prison. It was part of a larger complex of buildings, the remainings can be seen opposite the fortress. It is a remarkable historical building because it is one of the last remaining fortressses built into the sea in Europe. Here you can see cannons and shipwrick findings.
You will find the locals walking down the jetty throughout the year.
