To meet this objective, the Museum has dedicated itself to collecting, preserving and interpreting notable works of art; to presenting exhibitions of local, regional, national and international significance; to developing first-rate educational programs; and to presenting creative and inclusive programs to reach every segment of a diverse community.
Annually, the Museum presents 10-12 exhibitions on-site and 13 exhibitions off-site, award-winning art enrichment programs, unlimited gallery tours, teacher in-service training programs, video programs, distinguished lectures, art appreciation lectures, studio classes, lecture/luncheon programs and outreach services in its facility and throughout the community. The services benefit individuals, including visitors from all 67 counties in Florida, the other 49 states and numerous foreign countries. These programs are implemented by the Museum’s staff, its Board of Trustees and more than 700 volunteers, many of whom are part of its membership of 5,000 individuals.
Accredited by the American Alliance of Museums, the Orlando Museum of Art is a Blue Star Museum supported by the Museum's Board of Trustees, the Ambassadors, Council of 101, Friends of American Art, Acquisition Trust, earned income, contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations, and is funded in part by Orange County Government through the Arts & Cultural Affairs Program, sponsored in part by the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs and the Florida Council on Arts and Culture, the Warren and Augusta Hume Foundation, the Chesley G. Magruder Foundation, the Martin Andersen-Gracia Andersen Foundation and by United Arts of Central Florida with funds from the United Arts Campaign. Additional support is provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.

This cultural gem located in Loch Haven Cultural Park, minutes from downtown Orlando, is housed in what was once the private home of Howard Phillips, son of local philanthropist Dr. P. Phillips. Among the Mennello Museum’s many treasures is the permanent collection of paintings by self-taught artist Earl Cunningham (1893-1977), which was generously donated from the collection of Michael A. Mennello and Marilyn Logsdon Mennello. This collection of Cunninghams is the largest in existence, and a rotating selection of paintings remains on display.
The Mennello Museum uses its multiple gallery spaces to showcase changing exhibitions featuring American art of all genres and time periods, including original as well as traveling shows. Because of its affiliation with the City of Orlando, the Mennello Museum draws from the City of Orlando Permanent Collection, the largest public art collection in the state of Florida. The museum is also a Smithsonian Affiliate, a national outreach program that develops long-term collaborative partnerships with museums, educational, and cultural organizations to enrich communities with Smithsonian resources.
Tucked away on the shore of Lake Formosa, the Mennello Museum has undeniable charm. The Sculpture Garden is always open to the public and is most most recognized for the 350-year-plus sprawling live oak tree draped with Spanish moss that is called “The Mayor.” Numerous sculptures can be found in the surrounding Old Florida landscape and walking paths, which merge into the larger Orlando Urban Trail bicycle and pedestrian path. The Sculpture Garden is the site of the Indie-Folkfest at the Mennello Museum in February and the Kids Fringe Festival the last two weekends in May.
