Our sensible earth-friendly 'Solargon Cottage' was chosen as one of 40 structures featured world-wide in the acclaimed 2013 book "Urgent Architecture: 40 Sustainable Housing Solutions for a Changing World" by Bridgette Meinhold. Our spacious one acre property borders open space and overlooks the residential streets of Paonia. Our guests immediately notice how few neighbors we have and how much nature and beauty we enjoy from our unique location. In the center of this very large garden oasis sits the ultra-efficient 'Solargon Cottage', which was custom built by your host and two friends from the finest toxin-free materials available. The comfortable round house 'hogan' design is arguably the most energy efficient house not only in the Town of Paonia, but also in Colorado. It features simple and elegant comfort, unlimited wireless wifi, indoor/outdoor 7 speaker surround sound, beautiful Liebherr Energy Star refrigerator, full kitchen with large propane oven and four propane burners, indoor dining table for six (outdoor dining for 10-20), bathroom with 10 foot ceilings and four foot vanity, walk in custom tiled shower, queen bed with cozy pillows and comforter, and huge windows with views of the garden terraces and the larger surrounding mountains.
The cottage is surrounded by a haven of fruit trees, raised garden beds, red flagstone patios and walkways, and custom crafted outdoor living essentials such as a fully functional outdoor kitchen, shaded redwood patio arbor for meals and relaxing, a 10x12 locally crafted wall tent for naps, snuggles and/or extra guests ($20 flat fee), and a grassy private lawn.
We invite you to listen to the wind chimes in your own private kingdom and yet within 3 minutes of easy biking you will find yourself in the center of downtown Paonia. A beautiful walking, biking and horse trail is accessed in our backyard with views of the West Elk Wilderness, Grand Mesa, and Mt. Gunnison.
Private parking is provided. We are cannabis friendly and request that you smoke on the redwood deck outside or under the shade of the hops-covered arbor.

The small space is easy to keep warm with four wall mounted Eco Heater 400 watt silent units. A modern and beautiful Rais crafted wood stove with rounded glass is beautiful for both romantic evenings or simply as a place for flowers, candles or a sweet altar to add to throughout your visit.
Small house you say? Ask anyone. We have routinely hosted dinners for 15-30 guests both in the house and on the patio and have found the circular layout of the eight-sided 'Solargon Cottage' to be conducive to enjoying a large group of people, or simply having a romantic evening for two.
Our outdoor homestead features a warming hut with futon and wood stove, outdoor canning and cooking kitchen, two large outdoor freezers for your abundant harvest week, large private green lawn and gardens, walking paths and huge fenced in gardens with fruit trees throughout. Our outdoor living scene (as pictured) is a great way to get the most out of your visit to Colorado's premier farm-to-table destinations. Hire one of our local chefs to prepare you a meal either in the 'Solargon Cottage' or in the outdoor kitchen.
Our 1 acre homested is located off of 2nd street on the edge of town. We have a large hidden driveway and our property does not front any major roads.
Driving to town is easy and we have plenty of parking tucked up on the homestead. However, we do encourage our guests to walk or bicycle to town. The Stewart Ditch nature trail has an easement through our back yard and offers stunning views of the surrounding West Elk Wilderness, Mt. Gunnison, vibrant orchards, vineyards and the landscape of the North Fork Valley.
We encourage you to visit our local brewpub Revolution Brewing, eat at a variety of great downtown restaurants, visit Fresh & Wylde Farmhouse Inn, bicycle to the wineries throughout the valley and join us for live music, theatre productions and the abundantly creative lifestyle that is the signature of this amazing community.
Full indoor kitchen including 30" Premier Pro Series stove/oven/hood, luxurious German crafted energy star compliant Liebherr 13 cu. ft. counter-depth bottom-freezer refrigerator with LED Lighting and digital temperature display, plus pots, pans, dishes, cooking oil, and some spices. The indoor kitchen also features an electric hot water maker, stainless steel insulated french press, grinder and toaster. We don't have a dishwasher but do have a deep stainless steel sink and recently refinished butcher block counter tops.
Guests are also welcome to use our lovely outdoor kitchen, featuring a propane stove/oven for baking or canning, formica and stainless steel counter tops for cutting and prepping, ultra-efficient outdoor freezer, and oversized sink for dishes. A selection of plates, utensils and other cooking gear is also available.
If you're interested in canning, please bring your own jars, lids and bands but we do offer canning equipment to guests.
Our homestead has an outdoor living theme and to compliment it we offer guests the opportunity to nap, relax, or have extra guests ($30 per guest over the 2 guests included in the daily price) stay in the locally made 10x12 'glamping style' wall tent. The tent features a full sized futon, beautiful Lodi 1250 wood stove with glass door, insulated wood floors and misquito netting.
Feel free to play corn hole or frisbee on the grassy green lawn.
Guests who want to leave their dogs outside will be happy to find the dog kennel located next to the parking area. However, as a reminder, your well behaved dogs are always welcome to stay with you in the cottage. We ask that after you book and receive your welcome email, please let us know if you will be bringing you dogs so we can prepare for your stay. Please ask permission to use the larger dog kennel as my office is located in the hidden corner of this 3,000 square foot doggy paradise.
Off-street private parking spaces for four vehicles is available to guests.

Please leave the cottage clean when you check out. If you can restock the firewood from the piles right next to the cottage that would be a great help. Thank you and enjoy your private pet-friendly getaway!
The hot tub is a $45 fee that covers the hundreds of gallons of water filled and the 3-4 hours it takes to make it hot. Hot tub is cleaned prior to each use, and once you've reserved it, you can keep it hot for the duration of your stay by feeding the small wood stove connected to the tub. It's really lovely. You can (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) the $45 directly to Misha once you have arranged with her to have the hot tub on our cleaning schedule.
I have an even smaller dry cabin/office located in the shady trees on the very western edge of the enormous 3,000 square foot dog kennel I built in 2011. Though my dogs are rarely in the kennel, I do ask guests to please check in with myself or my co-hosts Misha & Darren to make sure it is ok to use this kennel for your dogs.

I've spent the last seven years pouring countless hours and sweat into developing two properties. The first is 'Kale's Cottage', our extremely popular pet-friendly airbnb located on a beautiful one acre homestead in Paonia, Colorado.
The second is our epic backcountry ski chalet called 'The Big Little'. This off-grid 'hard to get to' adventure lodge is located at 10,200ft above the stunning mountain town of Lake City, Colorado. Similar to a 10th Mountain Division hut you must park your car at our staging area on County Road 30 and hike one hour and 1.5 miles up to our luxury chalet. This can be challenging so only book if you have experience with adventure travel.
