If you like topics revolving around activism, civil rights, urban revitalization, community art or political history, this experience would be perfect for you! We will meet outside in the vacant lot across the street from MLK’s birthplace home on Auburn Avenue and get an overview of our waking tour. From there we will begin walking through this vibrant neighborhood, steeped in history and art. We’ll walk through a tunnel filled with psychedelic graffiti art, learn about the civil rights activism that took place here in the 1950s and 60s, visit an old warehouse repurposed into an eclectic food hall, pass outdoor art along the Beltline Trail, see locations used in Hollywood films — all while hearing stories about the background behind the art and history that only an active insider like myself could provide. And, as a timely mid-tour break, guests will have the opportunity to try a complimentary popsicle at a locally headquartered popsicle vendor who supports sustainable farming and community. Guests will be welcomed to participate in discussion and share reactions with others along the way, but not required.
The tour will also include a complimentary token to purchase a free popsicle from a famous popsicle vendor, also…
Having an education in visual arts and journalism, my art subjects are usually politically influenced. And, it was my passion for art and political history that drew me to the historic Old Fourth Ward neighborhood in Atlanta where I made it my home for over 8 years. During that time, I witnessed firsthand how the Beltline revitalization project transformed this neighborhood from being forgotten to the most desirable neighborhood of ATL. It's here where MLK, Jr. was born, and now the backdrop to many Hollywood studio film productions. During its dynamic transformation, I was an active resident of my community, and an Airbnb Superhost. I became personally acquainted with developers, restauranteurs, film producers and grafiti artists. I'm the insider with the background story to tie together the art and politics that coexist here.
