세계문화유산으로 지정 황금색 건물이 화려함 일본을 대표하는 아름다운 정원 우리나라 사람들에게는 금각사로 더 잘 알려진 킨카쿠지. 일본 소설가 미시마 유키오가 동명의 제목과 주제로 소설을 발간하고 요미우리 문학상을 받기도 했다. 1397년 건립된 오랜 역사를 가진 킨카쿠지는 3층의 누각으로 구성되어 있는데, 2층과 3층에 보이는 금박이 눈이 부시게 빛나기에 금각사라는 이룸이 붙여졌다. 쿄토에 킨카쿠지 이외에도 기요미즈데라나 긴카쿠지는 물론이고 워낙 많은 사찰이 아름드리 서있어 오히려 킨카쿠지는 명성에 비해 볼품이 없다고 할 정도. 하지만 흐드러지는 벚꽃과 붉게 타오르는 단풍이 함께 어우러지면서 금빛이 찬란하게 비추기에 계절만 잘 맞춰 온다면 아마 킨카쿠지가 가장 기억에 남을 듯 하다. 세계문화유산으로 지정된 금각사 역시 입장권이 부적으로 되어 있어서 반드시 챙기자. 누각 내부로는 들어갈 수 없고 주변에서만 바라봐야 하지만 정원수와 연못 등의 운치가 좋아 쿄토의 필수 코스 중 하나이다. tip 코스가 짧은 편이다. 입장하자마자 보이는 줄을 서야 킨카쿠지 포토 스팟으로 갈 수 있다(다시 돌아갈 수 없으므로 꼭 먼저 찍고 구경할 것).

Here's Kinkakuji Temple which is called The golden Pavilion. Covered in glittering gold leaf, the pavilion dazzles admirers as it shimmers in the sunlight over its mirroring pond. Both the temple and its delightful Zen stroll garden are a must visit location for any visitor to Kyoto. You can visit Kinkakuji for 30 min by bus from Unagi Inn

Kinkakuji (金閣寺, Golden Pavilion) is a Zen temple in northern Kyoto whose top two floors are completely covered in gold leaf. Formally known as Rokuonji, the temple was the retirement villa of the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, and according to his will it became a Zen temple of the Rinzai sect after his death in 1408. Kinkakuji was the inspiration for the similarly named Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion), built by Yoshimitsu's grandson, Ashikaga Yoshimasa, on the other side of the city a few decades later. Kinkakuji is an impressive structure built overlooking a large pond, and is the only building left of Yoshimitsu's former retirement complex. It has burned down numerous times throughout its history including twice during the Onin War, a civil war that destroyed much of Kyoto; and once again more recently in 1950 when it was set on fire by a fanatic monk. The present structure was rebuilt in 1955.
